they are long stems of wild grass with a seed tip that looked similar to wheat. the moisture from the running creek had built up on them, weighed them down, froze in the shape of globes around the head.
you have a good eye, patina. i'm a macro photographer at heart and love the tiny world that most people never take the time to see. well done. very nice images.
